The Kids in the Hall was an irreverent sketch-comedy
series from Canada that featured five exuberant young
male comics who played both male and female roles and
who wrote much of their own material. There were a number
of recurring routines--Scott Thompson as office worker Idiot
Boy and the entire cast as weight-obsesses ladies at lunch,
overly aggressive police interrogators, hyperactive office
managers, and tough street walkers. Much of the humor was
pretty dark, and many of the sketches had gay themes.

The Kids in the Hall originated as a club group in Toronto in
1984 and became a TV series in 1989, airing on the CBC in
Canada and on HBO in the U.S. It was added to CBS' late-
night lineup in 1992. The early episodes on CBS were reruns
of the HBO episodes, but eventually the network aired new
episodes. Lorne Michaels created the show and served as
co-executive producer along with Jeff Ross. At the end of the
last episode the stars said goodbye to the studio audience,
went into a field, and were buried alive. The tombstone
simply said, "The Kids in the Hall TV show, 1989-1995."
