In 1981 SCTV Network debuted on the NBC TV Network.
Station president Guy Caballero (Joe Flaherty) and station
manager Edith Prickley (Andrea Martin) were around, along
with "The Happy Wanderers," a polka variety shwo hosted
by Stan (Eugene Levy) and Yosh (John Candy) Shmenge;
Gil Fisher (John Candy), the "Fishin' Musician"; "Great
White North," a talk show with two beer-drinking Canadian
bozos, Bob (Rick Moranis) and Doug (Dave Thomas)
MacKenzie; "Mel's Rock Pile," a satire on Don Kirshner's
Rock Concert hosted by Mel Sharp (Eugene Levy); "The
Sammy Maudlin Show," with star Sammy (Joe Flaherty)
and his announcer, William B. (John Candy); a send-up of
The Merv Griffin Show with Rick Moranis as Merv Griffin;
and the continuing soap opera "The Days of the Week."
In the fall of 1983, after being canceled by NBC, SCTV
surfaced for one more season on Cinemax, with new
episodes and some changes in the cast. All versions of
the series were produced entirely in Toronto, Canada.
